2. Avoid Sugar

Please note that we are talking about GREEN juices here, and not fruit juices or other vegetable juices. Fruit juices have a great deal of sugar in them as well as calories.

3. Starting with Green Juices

When starting to drink green juices, the problem for many people is that they don’t like the taste. Some green juices can be very bitter, but you can sweeten the juice a little by adding lemon, carrot, beetroot, or apple. These additions will take the edge off the greens and make them more palatable for most people. But once you have been juicing for a few weeks, try cutting back to half a carrot and then none. Do not stress this, though, as a green juice with carrots is better than no green extract.

4. Beginner Green Juices

If you are starting to drink green juices and prefer something milder, then try one of these recipes to begin with.

Cucumber and Apple

  • 1 whole large cucumber
  • 1 apple
  • 1 bunch of fennel

This is a light juice, and most people love this. Once you get used to it, you can start adding lettuce, spinach, kale, or other greens.

Beetroot, Carrot, Celery and Spinach

  • 1 whole beetroot
  • 1 carrot
  • 3 celery sticks
  • 1 handful of spinach leaves
  • 1 slice ginger

This is a great beginner juice, as you have the sweetness from both the carrot and beetroot. But at the same time, you are getting plenty of greens, and a nice kick from the ginger.

Creamy Avocado

  • 1 apple
  • 3 celery sticks
  • Half a cucumber
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 handful of spinach

This delicious recipe requires both a juicer and a blender. Juice all ingredients, except the avocado, in your juicer. Then add the juice and avocado to a blender, and blend until you have a nice, creamy consistency. To get a thicker consistency, add some extra avocado. If too thick, add some extra juice. This juice is a little extra work, but well worth it. As well as the benefits of the greens, you are also getting some beneficial fats from the avocado. This is an excellent juice for your skin health.

5. Advanced Green Juices

Once you are used to juicing, you will want to move on to more green juices. You can experiment a lot here, and you cannot go wrong. Just add whatever greens you want and then adjust the taste as needed. The darker green vegetables, such as kale and broccoli, have a much stronger flavor to balance these out with lighter greens, such as cucumber and celery.

Super Greens

  • 1 whole celery
  • 1 large bag of spinach
  • 1 large bag of kale
  • 1 beetroot or carrot

This is one of our favorites. We often add lemon instead of beetroot, and add some additional herbs, such as basil, parsley, etc.

Many people include juicing as a central part of their raw food diets. If this is something that interests you, you can find books and other source materials on the internet that provide a guide to juicing and other recipes.
