No matter what the weather brings, Hawaii is still a beautiful place to visit. Year round, Hawaii offers great weather and events to that make it the perfect destination in every season.

Hawaii only has two real seasons. These are summer (kau) and winter (hoolio). Winter temperatures are not much colder than summer temperatures. Hawaiian weather stays relatively consistent, and rarely dips below 70 degrees.

Although the weather in Hawaii may not change much, the islands do. The changing seasons bring change on the islands, and as each island is diverse it has its own changes. This makes certain places more desirable to stay than others.

Summer

Summer is definitely the best season to stay in Hawaii. The weather is perfect and you can take advantage of the best that Hawaii has to offer. It is a time to hit some of the best beaches in Hawaii.

Where to stay?

The big island is definitely the place to be in summer. We have the best of that nature has to offer. This is the place to see all four elements of nature happening at once.

In truth, the choices of places to stay in Hawaii are endless, so you cannot decide on where to stay? Here are only a few good suggestions based on location, services, amenities, accessibility to tourist spots and many of island’s popular and loveliest beaches and resorts and other whatnots:

1. Hanalei, Kauai – even though Hanalei is a well-developed census designated place (CDP) in Hawaii, much of its natural beauty is preserved so you can still see and appreciate its well-endowed wildlife and beautiful beaches. You won’t even find any overcrowded resort in sight, so beachfront condos and AirBnB are the only accommodations you can find there. You won’t even spot some tacky big-name brands or chains in this town as it supports homegrown businesses, adding to the authenticity to your Hawaiian souvenir-shopping!
2. Honolulu, Oahu – if you are a first time visitor to Hawaii, Honolulu may be your best bet! It is the capital and the largest city in the state of Hawaii, so you can find almost everything you are looking for a “proper” and standard Hawaiian holiday. Soak up under the sun world-famous Waikiki Beach, hike on top of the Diamond Head crater, catch the weekly fireworks show at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, learn about and remember Pearl Harbor at the USS Arizona Memorial Park  and enjoy its diverse cuisine. If you can’t end your Hawaiian vacation without an exciting nightlife, Honolulu is undoubtedly the place to go.
3. Hana, Maui – if you are craving for a peaceful and unforgettable summer vacation in Hawaii, there may be lots of options. Hana, Maui, is one excellent destination to surround yourself with its lush jungles, relax in its laid-back atmosphere and be charmed with its “aloha” charm and lifestyle. It is not too far from the Haleakala National Park, the home of the Haleakala dormant volcano. The spectacular views from the volcano’s summit will simply take your breath away (it is best to hike there during sunrise).

Kailua-Kona has some great restaurants to eat at on the big island. It is a beautiful district with many places open late.

Winter

In winter, the weather can get a little extreme. The rain can be very heavy. You need a place that allows you to lay low and take advantage of the surroundings.

Where to stay?

Maui is our recommendation in the winter. This is one of the most romantic islands in Hawaii. Maui has some of their own amazing AirBnB options that are perfect for a romantic getaway.

Where to eat?

Lahaina is the best place to eat in Maui. Restaurants are all generally located near the coast.

Where to go?

The waterfalls and forests can be amazing in winter. With an increase in rainfall, this is the best time to see them.

Is winter time really a reasonable time to have a Hawaiian holiday?

As said before, winter temperatures are as not as cold as summer temperatures, so you can still enjoy the warmth of the Hawaiian sunshine, but not as much in the summer. The downside is that it tends to receive too much rain during the winter, so if you are considering a trip to Hawaii during the winter, book a stay at the island’s leeward side to avoid strong winds and storms as possible.

It also tends to be windier, so winter time is the best to catch some giant waves — especially if you are a surfing daredevil! It is also the best season to go humpback whale-watching.

Winter is considered an off-peak tourist season in Hawaii, so you won’t find headache-inducing traffic jams, overcrowded resorts (except in December, where most Americans coming from the mainland are taking their Christmas break) and sky-high prices in food and accommodation, so take advantage of those perks during the winter!
