Recent Beauty Favorites

June already? I kind of feel like spring just started, but here we are, on the cusp of summer break. My kids still have about 2 weeks left, so I’m relishing in these last few quiet nap times and easy days at home with just my toddler babe and growing belly. Before we get in the full swing of summer, I wanted to share a few of my recent beauty favorites. I’ve been cleaning out my makeup collection and added quite a few newbies to my routine. These are new to me products that I’ve recently fallen in love with and just can resist sharing with you all!
Before I get to the products, I wanted to let you know that this post is not sponsored in any way, but it does contain affiliate links. That means if you happen to purchase an item through certain links, I get compensation for it (a very small percentage). I’ve also included regular links to the brand websites too, but in cases where the item can be found cheaper somewhere else (like on Amazon or Target) I let you know and linked you to the better deal (where I purchased it from). I’m just sharing a good deal when I see one!

NYX Microbrow | $9.99 at Target

You guys…you know I’m always on the hunt for a good brow product. I’ve been using the e.l.f. brow pencil and was loving that, until I discovered this waxy, ultra-thin pencil from NYX. Microbrow is my new favorite! It’s smaller and a bit more delicate than the e.l.f. pencil, and the wax is dryer. I found it takes a bit more pressure for the color to show up, but the fine point makes it so much easier to get “real” looking brows. First, I groom my brows into place with the brush, then I use the pencil to make small strokes that mimic brow hairs, and then I use the brush again to soften the look. I love this pencil- I got it in Taupe. It’s definitely worth the $10 and I can’t recommend it enough.

NYX Stay Matte Not Flat foundation | $9.96 on Amazon

As a slightly oily-skinned person, foundation is always tricky for me. It seems like no matter what I do, I always end up slightly oil-slicky after a few hours. I’m always on the hunt for a good matte foundation- I like to change things up at different times of the year for different coverage and whatnot. I was watching some YouTube videos on beauty blenders (more on that below) and someone recommended trying this one. I snatched it up for $10 and I’m pretty impressed. The coverage is really nice and it does stay matte virtually all day without looking cakey. I’ve been wearing this one a lot lately!

City Colour highlight trio | $9.47 on Amazon

This was an Ipsy glam bag find that I absolutely love. This highlight trio is awesome because it has 3 different shades for all of your highlighting needs. There’s a warm, golden one, a pearlescent neutral one, and a rosy-pinkish one, all in one little compact. I love playing around with the different tones for different spots I want to highlight. They are all so pretty! I love when Ipsy sends me good stuff, and this definitely made my last glam bag totally worth the $10 a month fee.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit | $40 at Sephora

I’ve been dying to update to a more sophisticated highlight and contour kit after learning a few more sculpting techniques. If you’ve never tried it- google/youtube/pinterest “highlight and contour.” It seems intimidating at first, but it’s amazing the difference it can make. Anywho, Anastasia Beverly Hills is a brand I’ve been dying to try (I’ve heard such amazing things and I always drool over the display at Sephora). This contour kit is absolute perfection. The colors are all great, and I use a pretty even mixture of all 6, In my last contour kit, I found myself using the same 2 shades every single day, and I ran out of them pretty quickly while the rest remained full. Kind of a waste. This one gets pretty even play time, and the coverage is flawless! So easy to blend. At $40, this is a definitely a splurge for me, but worth every penny.

Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream w/ sunscreen | $20.97

As an Olay fan, I was excited to see this day cream in my latest Influenster Vox Box. I love the fact that it has a higher SPF factor of 30, versus the usual 15. Going into summer I want to make sure to protect my skin from UV rays as much as possible to avoid wrinkles and sun spots. I figured the higher SPF might make it a greasier moisturizer, but it’s actually surprisingly lightweight. It also contains amino-peptide complex to penetrate deep into the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and promises visible results in just 1 day! I’ve been using it for about 2 weeks now and my skin does look and feel pretty amazing. I think this is my new favorite day cream for summer.
The Original Beauty Blender | $20 at Sephora
I’ve been hesitant about buying a beauty blender for a while now, mostly because I love my foundation brushes I’m currently using, and also because I couldn’t justify spending $20 on a sponge. So instead, I spent $6 on a crappy, generic knockoff beauty blender and saw so-so results. However, I saw the potential, and it made me take a leap of faith and head down to Sephora for the original beauty blender. It’s got some amazing reviews, so I needed to see what all the fuss was about. Well, the first time I used it, I was hooked. I love how easy and fast it is to apply and blend my foundation now, and the finish is absolutely flawless. Rather than rubbing the foundation into your skin, you “pounce” it with a dabbing motion. The skinny, tapered part at the top is perfect for getting around your nose and eyes, while the big, fat bottom is perfect for covering large areas of your face really quickly. I don’t know if I’ll ever go back to a brush again. I love this thing! I feel like I can’t mess up my makeup with it. Love, love, LOVE the beauty blender! Do yourself a favor and get one!
So, what do you think of these recent favorites? Have you tried any of them? Or are there any you’re looking forward to trying sometime soon? I’d love to hear your suggestions too- what are some of your recent must-haves? Maybe you’ll see them in a future post.
