If you have never owned a juicer, then the choice available can be truly bewildering. You can get juicers that cost $30 or $3,000, so which should you choose? Your budget will play a big part in your decision, but if you have an unlimited budget, do not just buy the most expensive juicer, because it might not be suitable for your needs. When it comes to juicers, the costliest is not always the best.

How to Choose A Great Juicer

    1. Types of Juicer

There are three main types of juicer.

    Masticating Juicer

A masticating juicer is a low-speed juicer that can juice all fruit and vegetables, including leafy greens and wheatgrass. If you will be juicing greens, which we hope you are, then this is the type of juicer to get. Getting a low-speed juicer is essential because it generates less heat and therefore keeps the nutrients intact. The speed caused by high-speed juicers can destroy the nutrients, so you end up with less healthy juice. Masticating juicers can usually make other foods, such as raw desserts, nut butter, baby food, pasta, and lots more. The Omega 8004 is a superb machine. It costs around $230, so it is pretty much a mid-range priced juicer. This juicer also comes with a 15-year warranty, so it is built to last. Other masticating juicers worth considering are the Samson Advanced and the Solo Star II. Many people have used both these juicers and are delighted with them.

    Centrifugal Juicer

As the name suggests, these types of juicers produce the juice using centrifugal force. Centrifugal means that they are very high-speed, with speeds usually around 10,000 RPM. These juicers cannot juice leafy greens, so you will only be able to juice fruit and hard vegetables, such as carrots and beetroot. Many raw food enthusiasts believe these juicers’ speed is just too high, which causes the juice to oxidize very quickly. If you juice an apple with a high-speed centrifugal juicer and a low-speed masticating juicer, such as the Omega 8004, you will soon see the difference. The apple juice from the centrifugal juicer will turn brown very quickly, whereas the juice from the masticating juicer will stay fresh for much, much longer. But many people love centrifugal juicers, as they are relatively easy to clean. If you only plan to juice fruit and hard vegetables, this could be an option. If you purchase a centrifugal juicer, beware because some of the juicers at the cheaper end of the range tend to break down very quickly.

    Citrus Juicer

A citrus juicer can only make citrus juice for most people that is orange juice. If you plan to drink lots of orange juice, then a citrus juicer is the right choice, as neither masticating nor centrifugal juicers are great at making orange juice.

    2. Assembling and Cleaning Your Juicer

Before choosing a juicer, you will also need to consider how easy it is to assemble, disassemble, and clean. Of the masticating juicers, all the single-gear juicers are easy to use in this respect. You are not supposed to put any parts in the dishwasher, though, as they can shrink slightly and not fit together. Cleaning an Omega 8004 takes about two minutes to wash by hand under running water. It is similar for all single-gear masticating juicers. Twin-gear masticating juicers are a little trickier to assemble and clean, and this is one reason not to get one, although many people have used them in the past. They produce a slightly better quality of juice, but you may not think it is worth it for the extra time involved. For someone with significant health issues, you may want to get a twin-gear juicer, but for most people, a single gear juicer is a better option – because they are easier to assemble, disassemble, and clean. And they are much cheaper than twin-gear juicers.

    3. Juicer Recommendation

In case you have not already guessed, many people recommend purchasing the Omega 8004 Juicer. Many people who have used different juicers over the years and say the Omega 8004 is their favorite. You can buy the juicer from Amazon and other online sellers. Do not forget, even though this is the juicer recommended in this book if you do not have the extra money to get this one, there are many good quality juicers available with online sellers.
