    Dr. Mehmet Oz, known as Dr. Oz, was dubbed by Oprah as “America’s Doctor.” He is a well-known celebrity doctor and a star of his own television show, which offers information on healthy lifestyles. If you watch Oprah, you’re most likely familiar with him and his famous green drink. Dr. Oz says he drinks it just about every morning, and Oprah says she does that too. Talk about high-profile celebrity endorsement!

    The green juice was originally shared with the world on Oprah’s show, and celebrities have tried it. If you are looking for a super healthy drink to support your weight loss journey, detoxification, or any change you want to undergo to stay healthy – Dr. Oz’s green drink is worth a try.

    Original Dr. Oz Green Juice Recipe

    Dr. Oz’s green juice is traditionally made using a juice extractor. This green drink has a strong taste, especially if you’re used to drinking sweet drinks. The taste will take some time to get used to.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 ½ cups to 2 cups filtered water
    • 1 cup spinach
    • ½ cup cucumber
    • 2 celery stalks
    • 1 small bunch of parsley
    • 2 apples (cored)
    • ½ inch ginger
    • Juice from 1 lime
    • 1 ½ cups ice

    Instructions:

    1. Place all ingredients in the blender jar in the order listed.
    2. Blend until smooth.
    3. Serve and enjoy.  

    Note: If you’re using a Vitamix blender, select Variable speed #1. Turn the machine on and quickly increase speed to #10, then to high. Run for 1 ½ minute or until smooth. If you’re using Blendtec, press the Soup Button – don’t worry; it will not get hot because of the ice.

    The amount of liquid is essential here. To make this green juice, 1 ½ to 2 cups of water is necessary. If you don’t have a powerful blender, you may want to cut this recipe in half and use more water instead.

    Since many of these ingredients are part of the Dirty Dozen (a.k.a. foods that are high in pesticides), buy organic as much as possible, or use a great fruit and vegetable wash to remove what you can.  

    Modified Dr. Oz’s Green Drink

    If you search for Dr. Oz’s Green Juice, you will see various versions of the green drink. Here’s another variation:

    Juicer Recipe

    In this version, you will need a juicer. This is why you don’t need to add water – the juicer will squeeze out the juices from the fruits and vegetables. This also has an added lemon to add to the juice and make it tarter.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 cups spinach
    • 1 bunch parsley
    • 2 medium apples, cored and quartered
    • 3 celery stalks
    • 1 cucumber, peeled
    • 1-inch piece of ginger root
    • ½ lemon, peeled
    • ½ lime, peeled

    Instructions:

    1. Wash every ingredient well.
    2. Juice them together.
    3. Shake or stir and serve over ice

    Blender Recipe with Additional Fruits

    This version has orange, pineapple, lemon, and even some carrots and mint to make the juice yummier and more loaded with vitamins and minerals. If you’re not used to the flavor of green juice, this recipe might be more suitable to your taste because it contains more fruits.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 cups spinach
    • ½ cucumber
    • ¼ head celery
    • ½ bunch parsley
    • 1 bunch mint
    • 2 apples, cored
    • 3 carrots
    • ¼ orange, peeled
    • ¼ lime, peeled
    • ¼ lemon, peeled
    • ¼ pineapple, peeled and sliced

    Preparation:

    1. Wash all ingredients thoroughly.
    2. Combine all ingredients in a blender. You may add some water to get your desired consistency.
    3. Serve and enjoy.

    Parsley is a natural diuretic that can help reduce bloating and blood pressure. It comes with good levels of vitamins A and K, which are good for eye and bone health. Plus, its volatile oils can help inhibit tumor formation, especially in the lungs. The flavonoids in parsley can help prevent cell damage associated with diseases, including diabetes, cancer, asthma, heart disease, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

    Can You Lose Weight by Drinking this Juice?

    It depends on how often you drink it and the other foods you take throughout the day. Even if you drink it every day, if you’re piling on calories and see the green juice as a license to have a “cheat day,” then you probably won’t lose weight.

    If you do a “juice diet” or a “juice fast,” which limits your solid food intake and restricts calories big time, then you may experience weight loss, at least in the short term. The fewer calories you take in a while juicing, the quicker you’ll lose weight.

    However, weight loss isn’t necessarily the same as fat loss. When we lose weight through dieting, we often lose water. Then, you will likely gain the weight back as soon as you go back to your normal eating patterns.

    But even if you don’t lose weight, the health benefits of a juice cleanse are always a good thing. You consume essential vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that can keep your body functioning properly, and that’s already a win.

    Who is Dr. Oz?

    Dr. Mehmet Oz is a Turkish American surgeon, author, educator, and television personality who hosted The Dr. Oz Show and co-wrote the popular YOU series of health books.

    Dr. Oz received his undergraduate degree in biology as magna cum laude at Harvard University in 1982. He then earned an M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and an M.B.A. from Penn’s Wharton School in 1986. He then subsequently conducted his residency in general surgery (1986-1990) and cardiothoracic surgery (1991-1993) at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. He became an attending surgeon in 1993.

    Throughout his career, Dr. Oz was triple board certified, authored hundreds of peer-reviewed articles, and received several patents.

    Clearly, he understands science and clinical research, but he’s also an advocate of alternative medicine. In 2001, Dr. Oz became the director of New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s complementary medicine program and a professor of surgery at Columbia University.

    Dr. Oz co-wrote YOU: The Owner’s Manual in 2005, and the book was noted for its engaging text and humor. This led to a television appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Then, he became a regular guest on that program and many others. 

    He had a great rapport with the audience, partly due to his holistic approach to health and his laid-back vibe. The popularity of his TV appearances and books then led to a daily radio talk show where he and Dr. Michael F. Roizen provided health advice. It debuted in 2008. The following year, he began hosting his own daytime TV series, The Dr. Oz Show, wherein he presented information on various health topics and on preventive medicine. It immediately became a success, but it drew scrutiny from the scientific community. 

    Over the years, Dr. Oz has faced criticism for his promotion of homeopathy, pseudoscience, paranormal belief, faith healing, and alternative medicine. Major publications have published critical articles about him for giving non-scientific advice and quackery. He was also criticized for the guests he invited to his show, which included faith healers, psychics, anti-vaccination activists, and peddlers of unproven and disproven medical treatments.

    Whether you trust Dr. Oz or not – science has proven that there are many health benefits to drinking freshly juiced fruits and vegetables. It’s a great way to let your body absorb nutrients from fruits and vegetables you wouldn’t normally eat.
