Bout of books wrap up

Last week I blogged here about how I was finally going to participate in Bout of Books. I was so excited because one of my bloggy BFF’s Sarah has tried to get me to participate in BOB before but I never had time or missed the sign up dates. This time I was ready! Or so I thought.

Bout of Books started on Monday 1/7 & ended on Sunday 1/13

The goals were:
  • Read 150 pages per day.
  •  Finish 3 books.
  • Participate in at least 1 Twitter chat
  • Meet some new blogger friends who love to read!
 The books I’ll be reading:
  • Talented by Sophie Davis
  • Glitch by Heather Anastasiu
  • Matched by Allie Condie

Ok, so I didn’t do very well with my goals. The first two days were great. I read 359 pages and finished Glitch by Heather Anastasiu. It was amazing! I loved it and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves YA and dystopian books.

The middle of the week was when everything got a little crazy & distracting. We had a bit of an emergency situation going on here and one of my husband’s friends was “missing” for about 48 hours. I was online re-posting Facebook statuses and pictures, tweeting, emailing news stations, and stressing out for a few days while everyone was searching for him. Needless to say I didn’t get any reading done for those couple of days. (And I should point out and his friend was located & he is safe, so thanks to everyone who shared & retweeted to help out!)

I finally sat down on Saturday morning and was going to just power through Talented & Matched and try to get all of my reading goals done. I could still do it! I’ve been known to finish a book in 1 sitting, so 2 books in 2 days should be nothing. However, my stomach just didn’t want to cooperate and I spent the better part of my Saturday fighting off nausea, cold sweats, and finally ended up holding my own hair back over the porcelain God a handful of times. I did manage to finish 152 pages on Sunday, so I got about halfway through Talented by Sophie Davis.

Also, I participated in 2 Twitter chats, though I have to admit I almost missed both of them and only got there in time to answer the last 2 or 3 questions. I also didn’t get to blog hopping like I wanted to, so I didn’t really “meet” any new bloggers.
All in all, I read 511 pages and finished 1 1/2 books. I guess that’s not all that bad, but it’s definitely not as good as I expected myself to do. I mean, I’ve read three times this much when I wasn’t doing a read-a-thon.

For me, I think the timing was just bad! I would love to participate in BOB again, and hopefully next time life won’t throw me so many curveballs and I can just sit and read like you’re supposed to.
