Basic Raw Food Staples

When eating raw food, it helps keep a good stock of staple items that you will regularly use. What foods you decide to keep will depend on what foods you enjoy eating, but here is a list to help you start. There is no need to stock all of these items, pick and choose what suits you best.

Dried Herbs and Spices

These always come in handy, whether you are eating raw or cooked food. They add flavor to food and make eating more enjoyable.

  • Basil
  • Black pepper
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Cinnamon
  • Coriander powder
  • Cumin powder
  • Oregano
  • Paprika

Frozen Fruits

It is great to keep some frozen fruit at the ready to make a delicious no-added-sugar dessert in minutes. Keep whatever fruit you like. But do not forget to cut up the fruit into small pieces before freezing it. Trying to cut frozen fruit is not easy to do and can often result in injury due to the knife slipping suddenly.

You will also need to buy a range of fresh fruit and vegetables every few days, or at least once a week. Fresh produce is always better. We usually purchase a selection of the following and tend to buy whatever is in season.
