As promised…

A real blog & update finally. I’ve been slacking and I apologize.
I hope everyone had a great Easter with their family. Ours was kind of a bust due to the fact that I had a migraine for most of the day & ended up with my head in the toilet for the evening/night. My husband was able to rouse me into coming outside in the morning for our egg hunt (in pajamas…oh the horror!) and I’m so happy that I brought my camera with me because that was the highlight of my day! I got some good pictures of the kids doing their egg hunt and playing with their little airplane gliders and silly string. I was sad that we didn’t get a good shot of the four of us together, but I was in no condition to get on the other side of the camera lens.

Be prepared for a lot of Easter pictures. I know, I know, you’re probably sick of seeing everyone’s kids with Easter eggs all over Facebook & blog land, so if that’s the case please scroll to the end of my post for some crafting stuff 🙂
Shayne woke the kids up at 6:30 to do the egg hunt!

 Lily loved it!
Look at her smile…she had a blast
This was easily the best part of the whole day
She even picked me a flower

Cute little moment I caught between them
So since I was feeling like crap all day we ended up not doing a big Easter dinner. We were just going to grill some steaks with baked potato and corn on the cob (rather than cook a ham or something) but I could barely stand for a minute at a time without feeling like I was going to throw up, and Shayne was dead tired and took a nap. So for Easter dinner my kids got spagetti-o’s. Bad mom? Sorry, that migraine lasted for over 24 hours and I was in no shape to cook or really do anything at all. Oh well, they didn’t seem to mind. They had Easter candy & Silly Putty after all.
The other day I decided to start a project that I wasn’t even really sure I knew how to do, and it turned out with mixed results. I wanted to paint & recover these hideous lamps & lamp shades that I had. I knew how to paint the body of the lamp, obviously, but the shade proved to be a lot trickier. I thought I could just recover it with some cute fabric but that didn’t work. The shade kind of dipped in at a weird angle which meant I’d have to fold and pleat it in order for it to fit perfectly and it just didn’t work. I tried about 5 different ways and the shade was completely covered in glue and fabric remnants and I was just about to give up, until I came up with another idea. I thought about doing some kind of gathering or ruffling to add some texture, and this is what I came up with.
Sorry, I didn’t get a good before picture so I had to crop one out of a random living room picture I already had.
I can’t decide if I like them or not. I think they are cute, but I’m not sure if they belong in my living room or an old woman’s bedroom tea room. Shayne thinks they looks good but said they were “kind of foofy” so that made me second guess myself even more. Nevertheless, here are some more pictures. You decide.
I tried to get a closer picture to show the detail. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Here they are together. I think I like the green one more.
So I’m going to sit and stare and agonize over these for another day or so and then I’ll probably end up going to Hobby Lobby to buy some new lamp shades. I love the body painted white, but the shades are still driving me crazy. Still a great improvement though from what I had to work with.
Anyways, I have to go to JoAnn’s tomorrow or Wednesday to get some more fabric and crafting stuff, so maybe I’ll wander into good ol’ HL and see what they have. I can’t wait to do some more sewing this week!
