A Mother’s Day gift for my mom

I worked on a special project this week for my mom for Mother’s Day.
I had an old jewelry box that was a garage sale find and I’d been meaning to fix it up for my mom for a while now. After scoring it for $2 and with the sun finally making an appearance this week I decided to bust out the spray paint and start me a project.

Here’s what it looked like before:

It had good bones, but needed a face lift.
I gave it a good cleaning, removed the hardware, gave it a light sanding and primed it.
Then it was time to decide on a color. I wanted something fun and bright. My mom’s favorite color is blue, and she loved the table I painted for her last summer. Remember this one?

I decided to use Krylon’s Ocean Breeze again. It’s one of my favorites too.

It was looking good, but still needed something.

I added Folk Art’s Metallic Pearl on the edges. Perfect.

The inside needed some work too.
I added some black on black flower patterned fabric.

I also got her a little necklace and placed it inside the drawer (not pictured- sorry).

Then I whipped up this little card with my Silhouette Cameo.

And I packed it all up & accessorized with some of my Erin Condren goodies (they came with my planner I ordered). I love all of the little stickers and stuff! So fun to spruce up a special package for someone.

My mom already received her package and she loves the jewelry box! I know it’s something she’ll keep forever and use everyday, and I know she’ll think of me every time she does.
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I want to track down a few more of these little boxes and come up with some fun color and fabric combinations. I’ll be on the lookout at garage sales and thrift stores! It was a pretty easy, fun, inexpensive project too since I had most of the supplies already on hand. All I had to buy was the can of spray paint.

Give it a try! If you’ve never painted anything it’s a lot easier to work on than say, a large dresser or table.

Hope you all have a great Mother’s Day with your families!
