I love being a mom and a wife. I’ve always know that that’s what I wanted to do with my life, but I didn’t realize how challenging it could be too. I didn’t realize how exhausting it would be sometimes, and how little time there would be to think about my own needs. I spent a good portion of 2015 tired and drained- I’ve been eating horribly for years and haven’t done much for exercise in a really long time. I’ve been in this rut where I’m just always tired and fatigued, no matter how much sleep I get. It’s time for a change, and it couldn’t come soon enough since I’m now expecting baby number four! I made a little goal for myself that I would make my own personal well being and health more of priority in 2016, pregnant or not, and here’s my plan for kicking my own butt back into gear this year.
Eat better. I’m so bad with food. Sure, I’m skinny, but that doesn’t mean I can or should just eat what I want. A handful of toddler cookies and another cup of coffee is not a balanced lunch, but that’s pretty typical of me. Now that I’m pregnant I obviously have more of an appetite, but my cravings aren’t always healthy ones. Lots of fruits, fresh veggies, lean protein are what I should be reaching for during the day. I should also clean off my nightstand and get rid of the junk food and candy I keep hidden in my top drawer for late night snacks.
Get moving. I won’t lie- I absolutely hate exercising. I don’t like to sweat and I hate feeling hot, but if I want to be around when my kids are older I should probably start doing some cardio and strength training to keep my heart and body healthy. Plus, it’ll be easier to bounce back from this baby if I’m active during my pregnancy. Time to get that blood pumping! I do enjoy walking, so now that the weather is getting nicer I’m going to shoot for 3-4 long, brisk walks around the neighborhood with Harper in the stroller. Plus, the fresh air will do me good.
Drink water. This one is tough too. As I mentioned before, I love my coffee, but I’m trying to cut down a little while I’m pregnant. Growing a baby requires a lot of work, and with my body’s blood volume increasing, I need to be drinking plenty of water. I found that it’s easier to do when I have a cute water bottle to drink out of.
Sleep well. As a mom, I’m usually the first one up in the morning and the last one to go to bed at night. Lately, I can barely keep my eyes open past dinnertime, so hitting the hay early is a must. It’s exhausting growing a tiny human. I’m trying to force myself to be in bed earlier, and I’m making it a point to silence my phone and tablet when I curl up in bed. Those notifications going off all night can be so distracting and counterproductive for a good night’s sleep.
Take vitamins. I’m taking Nature Made Prenatal + DHA vitamins to ensure I’m getting all of my daily nutritional needs as a pregnant woman, including 200mg of DHA. Nature Made vitamins are the #1 best-selling brand of vitamins, minerals, and supplements* and are the #1 pharmacist recommended supplement brand in 9 categories**, which is why I feel good about taking them while growing this tiny baby inside of me. They’re specially formulated with age, gender, and life stage in mind and I can pick them up at Walmart for a great price every day.
